The Simple but Triggering Reason You Don’t Have What You Want
Why don’t you have what you want? Or maybe what you feel the Lord has for you? You’ve prayed. Maybe even fasted. You’ve cried out for help. But still, nothing has shifted. Why?
I’ll tell you…
Because you’re not a killer.
You’re “nice.”
You want everyone to like you.
You’re “soft in the spirit.”
And listen, I know this sounds harsh but if I don’t tell you then how can you change it!?
Look, there’s nothing wrong with being nice.
You can have some success by being nice. Being nice makes you likable and people liking you is always a good thing.
But winning? Nah fam. The people who are really have everything they feel they are capable of having all have one thing in common.
They’re not willing to live without it.
And that mindset, my friends, cannot co-exist with someone who is just “nice.”
Maybe you’re sad or disappointed at the results you’re NOT getting, but once you realize that it’s all because you’re willing to live with your sadness and disappointment then you can do something about it.
Most humans are comfortable enough to stay where they are, but not uncomfortable enough to do what it takes to get what they want.
We are simply willing to not have the life we want. We’re perfectly fine to live without it and that’s the problem.
Why Killers Win
Think of the most successful person you know.
It’s because, in one way or another, that person is a killer.
But not a killer of people…
“Killer” is a phrase for someone who’s a savage at going after what they want.
Look at Kobe.
“He’s a killer on the court!” was something they said about Kobe all the time.
And I want you to see that people who win are in a sense, killers.
Killers at doing hard things.
Killers at promoting what they do.
Killers at pitching.
Killers at closing.
Killers at setting goals.
Killers at not getting distracted and staying focused!
Killers when it comes to eating glass over and over and pushing until you see the thing you’re capable of achieving come to fruition.
Nehemiah was a “killer.”
Nehemiah was the Kobe Bryant of the prophets.
God never told him to rebuild the wall. He agonized over the report he got and said, “FORGET THIS I’M GONNA DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!”
NOBODY IS COMING! I’m gonna take the last shot.
2. When everything came against him, he literally could have said, “Let’s stop building and fight.” Or, “Let’s hide until the dust settles and keep building later.”
But no, he told everyone to get a shovel in one hand and a sword in the other. They rebuilt the wall with swords and shovels ready to fight at all times.
That’s killer thinking.
That’s killer leadership.
“I’ll die fighting before I stop.”
And our soft, safe, evangelical culture has made it inappropriate and taboo to pray, “MAKE ME A KILLER IN THE SPIRIT.”
MAKE ME LIKE KOBE FOR YOUR KINGDOM!
People like this get labeled as narcissists and toxic, but they’re the ones who actually start movements and shape culture.
I’m not trying to give toxic and abusive leaders a pass, or greenlights of any kind, I am simply drawing a contrast that if you want to step into what you’re capable of it’s going to require an intensity, tenacity, and sheer abuse of the spirit and attitude of passivity in all its forms to do so.
And sometimes God allows discomfort so we’ll see this.
Sometimes the Lord gives us the gift of divine discomfort to see if we are willing to live with it or not. When this happens we sometimes think a demon is “attacking” us, or God is judging us, but in all reality He’s allowing us to be discomforted because He’s trying to push us into pushing back against the pain and becoming a killer for what He’s put inside us.
He might be trying to show you that you DO got that DOG IN YOU!
What if He wants what is pushing you to do so until you say, “Enough,” and slit its throat?
(Brandon this is intense). Well, what if it has to be?
What if it’s going to require some intensity for your circumstances to change?
Enough living with the shame of that same sin struggle plauging me year after year!
Enough living paycheck to paycheck.
Enough being single and alone.
Enough being spiritually stagnant.
Enough being bitter.
Enough letting him hurt me again.
Enough with being OK with ENOUGH!
ENOUGH!
You have permission to stop being passive with your calling.
To stop being passive with what God has put in your heart.
Jut like Nehemiah, you’re the cupbearer to THE King.
You get to go and ask Him for whatever you need.
You have permission to build with a sword in one hand and a shovel in the other.
You have permission to “be a killer,” because for some of us, that’s what it takes to step into really living the life God has for us.
